Mosaics and Borders for backsplashes

Mosaics and accents are widely used in backsplashes for bathrooms as well as on borders. At Slate Capital, we process mosaics, listellos, and borders using all the natural stone varieties listed on our product pages. The stones are cut into small tiles below 10cm x 10cm in size and pasted on a mesh backing in a preset pattern or combination. The tiles may be square or rectangular. Even circular medallion-sized pieces may be pasted on the backing in a preset pattern.

Mosaics: The standard size of mosaics is 30cm x 30cm with a thickness of 1cm including the mesh backing. A set number of pieces are pasted on the backing. These may be a single variety of natural stones or a preset combination of different varieties of natural stones. Sometimes a single or more pieces of glass tiles may be included to break the monotony of the stones. The stone pieces may be tumbled to smoothen the surface and round the edges if desired by the customer.

Pebble Mosaics: Small river pebbles of sandstone or quartzite are rounded and smoothened by tumbling, split into two, and mounted on the mesh backing, usually in random sizes and patterns. As pebbles are a part of our program for gardens and landscaping projects, pebble mosaics may also be used in such areas.

Borders and Listellos: Borders and Listellos are similar to Mosaics and preset on a backing. They are narrower and used for enclosing a larger floor or wall backsplash area. The areas enclosed by the borders may be in mosaics or in natural stone tiles and slabs. The standard size of borders is 30cm x 7.5cm/10cm with a thickness of 1cm including the backing.

As India is a large country, the natural stone trade needs help in the consolidation of cargo for shipment to overseas buyers. The distance between each natural stone source is too much. Shipping delays due to such distances may result in skewed inventory for buyers and sellers.
